Who we are
The Akademie für Politische Bildung (Academy for Civic Education) Tutzing is
· a forum of information and communication about topics of current and essential interest in national and international politics
· a place for the discourse on contemporary history and the two dictatorships in Germany
·a place of further education for professionals, educators and those who are especially committed to contributing to civic education and to forming public opinion
· a meeting place where politicians and experts from the fields of science, research and civic education as well as interested citizens can engage in an open exchange of views and experiences and in a constructive debate
·an institution for research and for specialised publications. Thus we promote and deepen non-party civic education in Bavaria to strengthen the principles of the free and democratic order of our society.
The basic principles of our work
The Academy was established as a public law institution by a law passed by the Bavarian Parliament in 1957. It is independent and holds the right of self administration.
Its mission is to promote non-party civic education.
According to the Academy law the funds are to be granted by the State of Bavaria.
This institutional structure is unique in the field of civic education in Germany.
Essentially the Academy is funded by the state budget of Bavaria and it is under the legal supervision of the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture.
What we do
We organize – partly in cooperation with partners – seminars and conferences in our education center on Lake Starnberg, we arrange Academy colloquia and specialised conferences troughout Bavaria.
Constantly taking the ‘pulse of the times’, we select interesting and topical themes from the political, economic or social sphere and present them for controversial discussions. For this purpose we publish a half-yearly program preview.
To achieve these aims the Academy organizes its own seminars and conferences.
To a limited degree the Academy for Civic Education Tutzing also host guest conferences. picture gallery
